Counter drone specialists since 2011

Since 2011 we have been advising customers how to cope with hostile drones, also known as remotely piloted aerial systems (RPAS) or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). We are specialized in the detection and deterrence of Group 1 and Group 2 drones i.e. smaller type commercial drones weighing less than 30 kilograms.

These drones have the potential to be very problematic. Besides relatively harmless issues such as taking illegal pictures or video capture (paparazzi), drones can create major disruptions, as happened at London Gatwick airport in the past. More serious issues are, for example, the usage by criminals for smuggling contraband into prisons right up to drones carrying payloads such as explosives – a flying IED – or weapons. Furthermore these drones are used by “normal” military opponents for fire direction and controlling, for instance by MFC’s.

We advise customers to use a combination of detection means. That’s because each sensor has its particular advantages and limitations. We advise to use a combination of radio frequency detection (RF Detection) and radar. If needed – given the threat and situation – we can add other sensors such as acoustic sensors en visual day/night cameras.

Counter Drone Technology

What are drones and how does counter drone technology work? For basic information over these quesions read our article. Furthermore we provide information over the challenges facing coutern drone technology in thisc article.

This article is not exhaustive but will provide with general insights over counter drone technology.

Radio frequency jamming

In The Netherlands the government has experimented using birds of prey to capture drones. It was not a success as it was cruel and dangerous for the birds and was furthermore ineffective as a whole. The “hard kill” effectors are also very popular but they are not effective against drone swarms and there is a risk of collateral damage. That’s why we strongly suggest the use of radio frequency jamming:

  • Universally effective against all drones
  • Effective against drone swarms
  • Hard kill counter measures are not permitted for most users

Counter drone systems

Besides our stand-alone products we can advise on counter drone systems. A system can be one of or a combination of the following components:

  • Radio frequency detection system
  • Radio frequency jamming system
  • Radio frequency direction finder system
  • Radio frequency direction finder and jamming system
  • 3D Radar drone detection system
  • Visual drone video tracking system
  • Counter drone command and control systems
